Talking Turkey

EGDF is delighted to welcome as a new member Rehber Köpekler Derneği, the Guide Dog Association in Turkey. With a population of over 76 million people and no guide dogs, Turkey has badly needed this service.

Nurdeniz Tuncer, a visually impaired lawyer, has started the first guide dog association in Turkey. She is being helped by her friend and guide dog user Maggie Moore, who is the wife of the British ambassador to Turkey. Because it is is a mainly Muslim country, Turkey does not have a strong dog culture and Maggie has been able to raise awaareness of the valuable role of guide dogs and become an ambassador in her own right.
